About Organic Dyes

Natural Hair Colorants such as the plant powders Henna, Buxus, Indigo, or Cassia can safely be used to enhance or change your hair color.

They are plant powders that can be mixed with lemon juice in your home to make a paste and apply to your hair.

Because they are natural and do not strip the natural pigment from your hair, the color you get from these powders will depend on the color of the hair you are coloring. For example, henna on white hair will produce a red color, while henna on brown hair will result in auburn hair. These powders are safe to use on chemically treated or dyed hair. You can use them safely as often as you wish.

If you color your hair with these powders and get a color that is not dark enough, you can efficiently deepen it with another application. It does take a few days to obtain the final color of your treatment, because the color will proceed to settle into the hair shaft for a couple of days, due to the oxidation process.  This natural process occurs in a similar way as a cut apple turns brown with time.

The following are considered to be the safest organic dyes, although some of them contain certain amounts of harmful ingredients.
