How to “Henndigo” Hair

Henna mixed with indigo makes gray hair brown. The more indigo, the darker the color.

Repeatedly hennaing will eventually darken orange hairs to red. However, this requires a lot of maintenance, particularly with short hair. A simpler solution is to combine henna with indigo.

Hendigoing hair will produce colors ranging from cool-toned reds to browns and even blue-black. Henndigo gives a wide range of colors. Those whose hair looks best in cool tones are advised to use hendigo: the blue of indigo helps to cancel out the redness of henna.

Henndigo oxidizes over a few days. This darkens the final color. If your hair has become too bright or pale upon emerging from the shower, wait for a few days to see the final result before reapplying hendigo. Always perform a strand test to see how hendigo will respond to your individual hair color.
